If you are starting as a copywriter and you need hints and tips to write a good copy, you have come to the right place. These are seven tips that will help you write an excellent copy:

Putting the reader first.

Whenever you are writing a copy, you have to think of the reader. You have to ask yourself questions like-Will the reader understand what I have written? Will the reader understand the terminologies used? As a reader, will I be convinced to buy the product after reading this copy?

One of the methods you could use to write for the readers is referring to them as “you” in your copy. This method is known as “you-orientation.” Almost ninety percent of a copy or ad contains the word “you.”

Organise your selling points.

When writing a copy, organise the points you want to make carefully. In a copy, there is a primary sales message and various secondary sales message. The headline of the copy contains the main sales message, while the body of the copy includes the many secondary sales messages. You should always organise your points based on how important they are, followed by the information and type of ad.

Divide your copy into different sections.

Use asterisks or bullets to separate the sections. Whenever you are editing your copy, use subheadings to divide major areas of the copy. Make sure your paragraphs are short; divide long paragraphs into short ones.

Use Short Sentences.

Every reader loves short sentences because they are easier to read. Every writer learns to write in short sentences because long sentences bore readers, and they don’t recall what was at the beginning of the sentences when they get to the end of the sentence.
Also, vary the length of your sentences. Sentences with the same length make your ad dull. Practice writing short sentences and find long sentences when you edit and break them into two.

Use words that are easy to understand.

Readers understand simple words than big words. Big words are only used by a writer to feel important or to make the reader feel significant. Big words mostly distract readers from the message of the ad.
When writing a copy, you are trying to pass a message, not impress the readers. Your copy would not be ignored because you used small words.

Avoiding using technical words.

Don’t use technical words for readers that don’t understand them. Technical terms are for a small group of experts that understands them. Only use technical words only when it is essential when you don’t have another way to pass the message.

Be Precise.

All good copies are short and precise. Needless words take up a lot of space and waste the reader’s time. Avoid repeating words, wordy phrases, passive sentences, and unnecessary paragraphs.

Avoid Sexist Words.

Copywriters should avoid sexists words. A big part of the population is offended by sexist words, and angry people don’t purchase products. A salesman is an example of a sexist word; the salesperson is a better option.
