In my earlier blog post, it was mentioned that writing is a process. As a writer, you do not just pick a paper and pen or your laptop, write some pages and then publish. No, it takes a process. After you have successfully written your manuscript based on these processes, you can then think of publishing your work.
Also, due to the fact that there are different types of writing, various mode of publishing exists. Before we move on to that, let us quickly look at the definition of publishing.

What is Publishing?

According to Wikipedia,
“Publishing is the activity of making information, literature, music, software, and other content available to the public for sale or for free. Traditionally, the term refers to the distribution of printed works, such as books, newspapers, and magazines. With the advent of digital information systems, the scope has expanded to include electronic publishing such as e-books, academic journals, micro-publishing, websites, blogs…”
I believe Wikipedia’s explanation of publishing has shed more light on traditional publishing and modern publishing. And also reiterate the fact that publishing in writing simply means making your work public.

Modes or Types of Publishing

The way a newspaper is published is quite different from the way a blog post is being published. For the purpose of this blog post, I would list four major types of publishing. They are:
Traditional Publishing: has to do with using publishing company to publish your work

Self-Publishing: this involves not making use of companies, but taking upon oneself, the job of publishing one’s work.

Academic Publishing: these has to do with publishing textbooks and academic works. Example is Long man.

Micro-publishing: this is the publishing of short stories, articles, blog post, reviews, etc., to a public domain website.
